It’s been a while since my last post. The headline of this post says it all. I’ve been struggling terribly with pests. While aquaponics provides awesome growth to the veggies, being organic leaves it exposed to all manner of infestations.

The Cucumber Attack

It started with just a few small mites on a leaf.

Start of the infestation

The infestation gradually spread, and the leaves started to suffer as the following series of photos taken over about a three week period shows.

At this point the plant is clearly suffering under the onslaught.

Then the inevitable conclusion as the plant expires. Sad face :(

I still have no defense against this type of infestation. The only thing I could find on store shelves is white oil, but I hesitate to put anything petroleum-based into my system. The cure sounds worse than the disease.

Chance upon your site after many months of casual looking at aquaponics’ videos and websites. I was wondering, if there is some sort of community or group meetup for this? I would love to learn more from you. Possible to meet up? I have a little bar. Drinks on me!
